WordPress is an amazing content management system but, if you have a large website the built-in WordPress search can fall short.
Below are 2 great plugins that will help you improve WordPress default search function.
1. Facetious
Facetious, allows your visitors to search by Keyword Search, Category, Tag, Format, Picture Tag, Month, & Post type. It also allows you to Restrict the search by Post, Page, & Media Type.
The new search bar can be added via widget or by a template function.
Below is an example of the search bar added on the theme using a template function.
2. Relevanssi
By deafult wordpresss serach displays results by date. Relevanssi replaces the default WordpRess search with a partial-match search that sorts results by relevance. It also indexes comments and shortcode content.
Other features include:
- Highlight search terms in the documents when user clicks through search results
- Search comments, tags, categories and custom fields
- Search for phrases with quotes, for example “search phrase”
- Google-style “Did you mean?” suggestions based on successful user searches.
On the back-end, Relevanssi allows you to assign differnt weight to post titles, comments, tags, & categories. The higher the value, the higher placement in the results page.
