Keeping your WordPress website secure is very easy and important. Here are 5 tips to help you avoid hackers from hurting your WordPress website.
1. Keep your WordPress installation up to date.
Hackers tend to target websites with old versions of WordPress installed due to their known errors of security.
Every new release of WordPress contains patches and fixes that address real or potential vulnerabilities. If you don’t keep your website updated with the latest version of WordPress, your site can get compromised.
2. Keep plugins and themes up to date.
This year ,WordPress had several critical security vulnerabilities. Last July, multiple WordPress Plugins were vulnerable to Cross-site Scripting (XSS), due to the misuse of the add_query_arg() and remove_query_arg() functions.
WordPress XXS, made websites vulnerable to potential SQL injection & timing side-channel attack. Keeping plugin and themes up to date is critical to increase WordPress security.
3. Download themes and plugins only from trusted sources.
Trusted sources for themes and plugins provide security without any chance of spam being sneaked into your site. Some free themes and plugins insert spam links into your site & other malicious code. This code is invisible in the front-end, so an apparently healthy site could be infected.
4. Do not use “admin” as your username.
If admin is your username and you don’t have a strong password than your site is vulnerable to hackers.
5. Use strong password.
Strong passwords make it hard to guess for hackers and also makes brute force attacks less likely to succeed.
