Social Media Marketing Orlando
Social Media Day takes place annually on June 30th. Social Media Day is a great opportunity to use your social media channels in a creative way to gain more followers. We use social media every day to interact with friends, families, interests, and businesses. Social Media Day was created to celebrate the various ways that this tool has evolved to hold an important place in social interaction, politics, public services, and business. We want to share five ideas for businesses who would like to take part in Social Media Day.
Social Media Day FAQ's
Social Media Day is celebrated by businesses, organizations and influencers to recognize the impact of social media as a tool that we all use every day to communicate across the globe.
Social Media Day was started on June 30, 2010 by Mashable, a tech and entertainment company. Every year, Mashable hosts Social Media Day gatherings around the globe on June 30 to celebrate social media as “the heart of global communication.” Today, businesses and organizations around the world participate in Social Media Day in various ways, recognizing the impact of social media on culture, movements, and interpersonal communication globally.
There are no rules to celebrating Social Media Day, but the most widely used hashtags to participate online are #SMDay and #SocialMediaDay. We recommend celebrating with an online event, an in-person event that incorporates social media, or a special post to your social media channels using the #SMDay hashtag.
At M5 Design Studio, we recommend that all businesses post on social media because it is an important way of interacting with customers. Additionally, a little known fact is that Google actually factors the social media channels featured on your website (ie. Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) into your ranking in Google Search results. Google assumes that business with active social media channels have more legitimacy, so participating in social media marketing is an important part of improving your overall online marketing presence.
Engaging content for social media depends entirely on your business and your brand. Some types of social media posts that generate engagement are trending video challenges, memes, contests, photos and videos with personal stories, and infographics. The most important part of engaging your audience on social media is posting consistently.
Social Media Day Ideas
Social Media Day can be celebrated in so many ways. Our favorite way for businesses to celebrate Social Media Day is to hold an online or in-person event that encourages people to follow all of your social media channels. This is a day for you to boost your social media marketing potential, and have fun while doing it. Here are four examples of ways to celebrate Social Media Day.
1. In-Person Social Media Day Event
Announce to your followers that you will be having an in-person event for Social Media Day, June 30th, and that you will be giving away free cookies, coffee, or any other item that will entice followers to stop by. In order to receive the free item, they have to show on their mobile device that they have followed your business on one or more of your social media platforms.
This type of event works best for businesses and organizations that have a social media following close to your geographic location. This includes restaurants, schools, stores and doctor offices. Businesses that have large corporate offices can also use this strategy to encourage social media engagement among your employees.
For the month of June, post consistently on your social media channels announcing your event to ensure you have a good turnout.
2. Online Social Media Day Giveaway
To host a Social Media Day giveaway on June 30th, you’ll similarly want to announce your event for the entire month of June across all your social media platforms, and on your website. Come up with a grand prize and a couple smaller prizes that you’ll be giving away, and have users enter your giveaway by 1) following your social media channel, 2) liking the giveaway post and 3) commenting on the post. The follows will help you boost your social media marketing audience overall, and the engagement on the post will help it rise in the algorithms so that new users will see it and become engaged with your company.
Make sure you list detailed entry rules on your website, including how participants will claim their prize. You’ll also want to include any disclaimers relevant to your business or the giveaway guidelines of the platforms you’re posting on.
3. Social Media Marketing for Non-Profits
If you are a non-profit business, you can highlight the important role that social media plays in elevating your cause, and encourage your followers to become involved in online advocacy. Here is an example from the UN Women’s organization.
4. Post Your Platforms
This is a simple and effective idea that any business can do. A lot of times, your followers on one social media platform are not following you on all the others, simply because they don’t know about them. Post a graphic to all your social platforms encouraging users to follow you everywhere.
5. Get Creative with Video or Memes
Lastly, have fun with it. Create a funny meme or video for Social Media Day, and ask users to follow you in the video or in the caption. Most users are on social media to have fun, so if they can see that you are offering a little extra time and effort to bring them funny content, they are much more likely to follow you! Remember though, consistency is key, and direct asks to follow, like, comment, and share do pay off, even with your most clever content.
