Google is now offering a new green badge for Google My Business listings called “Google Guaranteed.” You may have already seen this green checkmark next to listings for local plumbers and locksmiths. The Google Guaranteed badge indicates that the customer phone call will be recorded by Google, and in the case the customer has a problem with the service, Google will back it up with a refund. The refund process requires an attempt to resolve the issue with the company and has a $2,000 lifetime limit per customer in the U.S.
Google also vouches that verified businesses are licensed and insured. Google is promoting the new badge saying it will “make it easy for customers to choose you”:

Google Guaranteed was first made available for plumbers and locksmiths in 2016 as part of Google’s crackdown on fraud in San Francisco in these two sectors. It is now expanding its guarantee program to a much wider segment of home and professional service businesses. A big difference is that the Google Guaranteed badge will appear not only in the Local Services section as pictured below, but in the Google My Business profile itself.

The cost to businesses to have the Google Guaranteed badge on a Google My Business listing is $50 per month.
As of October 2020, the Google Guaranteed badge is available for most home services such as roofing, electricians, and lawn service. They will be adding more professional services in the near future, such as pet grooming, tax services and video services. You can check your eligibility here.
If you are a business and would like to sign up for this badge, you must first have a Local Services Ads account with Google. You can then go to this page and submit a form to have the badge added. As of now, the screening process for Google Guaranteed is the same as the Local Services screening, which includes proof of licensure and insurance and background checks.
If you are customer and you are unsatisfied with the quality of service provided, you can contact Google Local Services support to file a claim for a refund. You must contact them within 30 days of the service provided, and they state that you should first contact the company to resolve the issue directly. Based on your case, Google may or may or not choose to refund the claim at their discretion.
You can look up your eligibility to add the Google Guarantee badge to your business listing at their support page based on your zip code and service provided.
