Last week, Google announced that starting July 1, 2019, Mobile-First Indexing will be default for new domains. With this change, Google gives the final push to developers & business owners to show users – and search engines – the same content on both mobile and desktop devices.
This week Google also announced, that its rich results testing tool has been updated to include a selector for desktop or mobile. This means that website owners can check their Google search results on both platforms.
Google’s Rich Results tool, shows if pages are properly formatted with structured data to display articles, books, carousels, corporate contacts, events, courses, etc. And now with the option “Select a user agent” you can choose “Googlebot Smartphone” to see how see how theses results are and prepare for Mobile-first indexing.
When you enter your website in Google’s Rich Results tool, it will inform you if the page is eligible or not for rich results, and what rich results were detected.
One thing to take into consideration, is that Google’s Rich Results tool, is a beta version and not all rich results and error types are supported yet.
